Open-source seems like the trend as every one is talking about linux or related technology. but is it really that popular?
Well, to normal users, it might not be as it’s not that user friendly to those used to Windows or MacOS, and it does not have that good ecosystem for end user applications, though it does and is making progress in this field. it might take long before they get used to Linux related system and UI, which in turn will push those users away from itself.
But for IT personnel, it’s still necessary to know something about Linux and Unix like systems, better to get familiar with them. IoT is the hot topic and so is Cloud, which both have much to do with open-source technology, and even Microsoft, who wanted everything but open-source several years ago, also start to embrace it and provide more support to Linux in it’s own products chains. besides, it looks popular and new technologies all have something related to open-source, more or less.
