when it comes to new fields, be cautious and move slow unless required the other way around, because what seems quite simple and easy to others might be very difficult to us when we first enter this field. take technology for example, when we first access IT work, the simple concepts, like DNS, DHCP, layers of network, might cost us a lot of time before we finally understand what they are and how they work.
what worked before might still works now. that is, when we try to learn new skills, be patient and don’t rush to the end too quickly and still expect a good result. think how we learnt the skills we are now good at, or how we started the leaning of a new language. didn’t it start from simple concepts and basic elements, and then practice and practice, where we tried to finish some tasks, some successfully and some not? didn’t it take much time for the first and beginning period that we got better understanding on the basic concepts and gained a systematic knowledge though from the very basic level. and then we noticed things became easier and we could move faster and faster, more difficult tasks gradually taking less time to get sorted out.
that’s it and that’s how it works. so, being older is not the reason that we can be impatient when learning new skills just because we have more knowledge and experience from general perspective. general knowledge and experience will be much helpful when it comes to general tasks, but not to all, especially when we talk about skills in specific fields, or in other words, in some professional fields.
so, follow the rules and make it work again like before.
