Memorizing by Writing

I have been writing my diary since, I think, when I was in middle school. Several days ago, when I was clearing up my staff, I read some of the words I have written several year ago and was happy that I kept these words and could not help laughing on some of the smart comments I made (at least I myself think they are smart). and also there are some thoughts that i have not touched so long though i valued and still value them very much. it’s a pity that i have lost some of my diaries, especially those that i have written when i was still in the school. i am sure it will add more values if i still keep them though they should be nothing but some meaningless and useless comments and thoughts from a sentimental and sensitive student who have not even seen much difficult and tough moments except some from the studies. after all, that’s who i was and what i was thinking, good or bad, meaningful or useless.

but i should not be too sorry about this as for us, something is meant to be missed. what we have written, when we were thinking, what we have read, what we have experienced and also whom we have loved. all of them are not staying with us the whole life but have affected, is still affecting and will affect us much longer than they are with us, as we are who we are because of them, and we will be who we will be under the influence of them as well.

when i read a novel by someone from Europe some days ago, there was a saying there:

– how will you eat a whole elephant?

– by eating little by little…

when i first read these words, i though it was a joke. but with a second thought, i came to realize it’s a very smart piece of philosophy. yes, and this is how life works, like the French old saying goes, Petit à petit l’oiseau fait son nid. every little part of these things matters.
